# FAQ

> Common questions about Gmail aliases, privacy, compatibility, and updates

  <Accordion title="Do aliases create separate Gmail accounts or inboxes?">
    No. A plus tag, dot variation, or `googlemail.com` variation is another form of the same Gmail address. Messages normally arrive in the original inbox.

  <Accordion title="Does this work with Google Workspace accounts?">
    Plus addressing may work when the organization's mail configuration allows it, but Gmail dot behavior is not guaranteed for custom Workspace domains. Test the generated address before relying on it.

  <Accordion title="Why does a website reject or merge my aliases?">
    Some services reject the `+` character, remove dots, or normalize Gmail addresses before creating an account. This is controlled by the website, not the extension.

  <Accordion title="Do Gmail aliases hide my real address?">
    No. Aliases are useful for organization and tracing, but they are not anonymous. A recipient or service can often infer the underlying Gmail address.

  <Accordion title="Where is my data stored?">
    Accounts, aliases, history, presets, favorites, statistics, and settings are stored in browser extension storage. Alias generation does not require a remote server.

  <Accordion title="Why does the extension request access to websites?">
    Website access is used to detect email fields and display the optional inline alias helper. You can disable the inline helper for individual sites and manage the disabled-site list in Settings.

  <Accordion title="Are multiple accounts kept separate?">
    Yes. Each configured account has isolated history, favorites, and statistics. Switching the active account changes which base address is used for generation.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I move my data to another browser profile?">
    Use the settings export/import tools and export important alias history as JSON or CSV. Browser extension storage is otherwise tied to the current browser profile.

  <Accordion title="How are updates installed?">
    Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons installations normally update automatically. GitHub release packages and unpacked builds must be replaced and reloaded manually.

  <Accordion title="How do I report a bug or request a feature?">
    Open an issue in the [Gmail Alias Toolkit repository](https://github.com/ePlus-DEV/gmail-alias-toolkit/issues). Include the browser, extension version, steps to reproduce, and screenshots when possible.
